Leadership

he Let’s Play! Leadership series allows me the opportunity in October to stress to the students that the character traits you exhibit as a reaction (good or bad) in any situation are the character traits people remember you by. This is always a reminder to myself to practice what I am teaching the kids. Trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship are the six traits we will discuss every month when I go to the classrooms. The students always bring up great perspectives and I always learn new things each year. November brings about some problem solving skills and how each situation can be approached from a different viewpoint or idea. Looking at the big picture may help you see the issue from a whole different angle and a simple solution may come to light. Utilizing the resources around you can provide new insights and help you solve the issue.

Officer Training took place in October and was well attended. We have been working as a district for the past several years by rotating the location of the training session by county. Club members are starting to branch out of their comfort zones by working with and talking to other county club members. Parent volunteers were offered a short session about being a 4-H volunteer and/or renewing their volunteer status. The networking among the leaders is so beneficial especially to new club leaders!

4-H Achievement Banquet is held every November. This is the time we get to celebrate the youth’s accomplishments and our volunteer leaders. The 4-H members turn in a record book on their project work from the year. They can also apply for yearly pins. A meal is served and all the accomplishments are recognized. The volunteers we have are incredible and the 4-H program would not be what it is without them!! We appreciate them so much! Thank you to anyone who is a volunteer helping our youth.

Annual Conference was held in Manhattan during October for all of Extension and Program Rally will be held in Wichita during November for all who work with 4-H Youth Development.
