Wildcat Connection November 2018 | Page 16

ince my last reporting, I have been busy with a variety of events. Monitoring traps, Old Iron Days in Fredonia and Annual Conference in Manhattan have kept my job eventful.

The trapping school that we hosted in Caney with Jenny McDaniels from the Rolling Prairie Extension District was a great success. Although the actual program was over, we continued with our trapping school by monitoring the catches and the effectiveness of the traps set by Charlie Lee, Kansas State Wildlife Damage Control Specialist and Drew Ricketts, Kansas State Wildlife Habitat Specialist. Since the traps were set on property owned by a livestock producer, he was more than willing to keep the traps present and use them for wildlife control. This was a great learning opportunity, not only for those who attended the trapping school, but also for the land owner.

I also helped at the Old Iron Days in Fredonia. There were 600 kids reported in attendance on Thursday of the event and another 1700 students reported on Friday. Cheri Nelsen, Will Morris and I all spent time teaching the young students about different agriculture related topics. It is good to see so many schools interested in bringing their students to learn more about the variety of agriculture.

This month the agents, including myself, traveled to Manhattan for our Annual Conference. This event provides professional improvement opportunities, learning sessions and great networking abilities. Also while there, I set up a couple meetings with other agents to learn about specific programs they are working on and I gained new ideas about what I can provide to people in the Wildcat District and enhance our current programs. I also gained valuable insights from several of the committees and groups that I am a part of and we crafted many great ideas.

It was a great month for networking and strengthening relationships across our district. I am excited to see the variety of programs our district offers in the future.
