ebruary is a busy month for 4-H members and agents. Traditionally it is the month for Club Day. This event is designed to showcase members speaking skills, talents, musical talents and parliamentary procedure knowledge. For agents it is an opportunity to see what kids are learning at the club level and a chance for us to help out with teaching some of those

skills. Public speaking was definitely not my favorite project, nor one that I wanted to do, but I had one of those “pushy” moms who made me do it. I am so thankful that she did. I am still not the greatest speaker, but I can do it and as my kids will tell you life is easier when you know how to get up and speak in front of a group. Club Days was a success even with so many kids out with the flu. I look forward to seeing them be successful at Regional Club Days in March.

Six members also put their Citizenship into Action by attending CIA. These members contacted their representatives and senators and I am pleased to say Wildcat District had four legislators join us for the Sunday evening banquet. The legislators had a great meal with the members and the kids in turn were able to talk about different projects with them. Members then participated in mock legislative sessions. Some members were on the floor in the House of Representatives and some were on the Senate floor. They helped write legislation earlier in the day and then debated it on the floor that evening. This is a great opportunity for our kids to see how government works.

Finally the month was finished out with the Neodesha after school program. This month I had kindergarten and first grade. We talked about layers of soil and had dirt desert. Then I read them the story of Sammy Soil and they colored some soil pictures. Beef tag day and the 2nd of four livestock club meetings are happening this weekend. I am also having a skillathon practice and will be asking parents to help out with that activity. I have planned a Volunteer training session on March 15 and look forward to having several leaders complete their registration.
