4-H Youth Development

Leadership

amp preparation has been what’s consumed me during May. We have had several meetings for several different camps coming up, Sunny Hills Camp, Sewing Camp and Greenbush Camp. These are all great opportunities for our youth to progress in their youth development by learning to be more responsible for themselves and their personal belongings at Sunny Hills and Greenbush.

These both provide parents with a chance to see that their child can be without them for a short time, enjoy themselves and come back refreshed (that they survived). Most of the kids attending camp return each year because they make great friendships with other youth in the Southeast area of Kansas, learn new skills and of course get to do all kinds of fun activities for several days in a row with others their own age. It’s like an extended slumber party with an educational emphasis and the youth don’t realize it.

Sewing Camp has highly requested spots! Youth ages 9-14 are able to try their hand at running the sewing machine, creating an item made by them while learning new skills and making new friendships with other youth in Labette County that may or may not be in 4-H. This is also a week that involves lots of volunteers! Sewing Camp would NOT happen without them! We appreciate anyone who helps in anyway preparing and running this week!

I did get to promote all of the camps on KOAM-TV Wildcat Wednesday. Summer is a great time to provide educational opportunities for our youth in an all hands on environment.
