ecember marks my one year anniversary in the Montgomery County Office. I have enjoyed the transition and loved getting involved in the community. In December, several of our faculty team members were judges for the district FFA speech contest. It is always fun to see our youth thrive in areas outside of 4-H. Some of the 4-H youth that were at this contest will be able to use their speech again in February at our 4-H version of this event, County Club Day.
December is a planning month before things start picking up again in the New Year. I attended the Little Balkans meeting, where Will Morris and I will now be hosting the Skillathon portion of the event. We also attended our Sunny Hills, Rock Springs camp planning meeting. I am the secretary for this group and assist with group pictures and meals at camp. This is always a good meeting with Rock Springs staff as the highlight the changes that have been made to the facility over the past year and the new opportunities for our campers.
I was able to attend the grant writing workshop co-hosted by the district and took away some good notes. The networking at the event was very enlightening. I have been working with Wildcat District’s 4-H Office Professional Haygn Erwin to take over the district newsletter. Our letter reaches over 680 families, supporters, and community members by mail or email.
In January, I am looking forward to working with several elementary schools to celebrate Kansas Day! I will also be doing a Kansas Day program at the Coffeyville Public Library on January 29! I plan on promoting these events during my scheduled radio time on KKOW in January.
