I'

ve heard it said on several occasions; “Life is what happens when you’ve made other plans!” How true it is! I had planned to attend the Horticulture Agent’s PFT winter training event in Manhattan, December 10 – 12.

However, an unexpected event created a need for a hernia repair on December 7. I took the following week off for recuperation (the surgery went very well, thank you all for the prayers)! So, for me the rest of December was just doing regular stuff. There was one really nice exception to the regular stuff; our staff team-building event at “Escape Joplin.” This was a terrific, fun-filled, mind-challenging program that promoted great teamwork! The Wildcat team that I was on (we were divided into two teams actually) successfully solved several puzzles and retrieved the “lost medallion;” and we did it with less than two minutes to spare (well, that’s how I remember it)!

My regularly monthly activities include answering questions/solving problems/advising/identifying insects and plants for clientele; Wednesday morning (7:40 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.) radio shows on KGGF 690 AM in Coffeyville December 5, 19 and 26; news article – Christmas Tree Selection and Care; pre-recorded radio messages – Weekly Ag News and Extension Minutes Reports (Amazing Poinsettia, Christmas Tree Selection and Care, Christmas Cactus, Amaryllis Gift Plant, Feeding Birds).
