Perseverence is key to success

hat is the one factor that will determine if we are successful? According to the research of Angela Lee Duckworth, it is grit. Duckworth says grit is the passion and perseverance it takes to accomplish long-term goals. Those who exhibit this trait recognize that there will be times that there will be setbacks, but take time to learn from those setbacks and continue on towards reaching their goals.

Why is this importance for us here at K-State Research and Extension, Wildcat District? We want to be successful, and as such we want to have “grit”. We want to push forward towards our goals – not just for a week, not just for a month, but years! Together as faculty, staff, and volunteers, we can work together to be successful in making positive impacts in the lives of others, which is our goal as a life-centered organization.

To continue working together to create an atmosphere of grit and success, we need to recognize that not all of our efforts will be met with immediate success. There will be times we need to adapt and overcome. We do this by accepting our near wins as well as our smashing success. Take time to listen to Sarah Lewis as she discusses embracing the near win. By doing this, we can learn to actually go beyond success to mastery.

This video will help you re-evaluate how you look at success.

Let’s continue working together at all times. We are a team!
