4-H/Youth development

his month I attended my last 4-H Council meeting for Crawford County 4-H, as the agent. Will Morris was able to join us and meet the families. During his first week, I spent a day with Will to cover important information and plan upcoming events. We also had three appointments with youth for record book consultations.

As I settle in the Montgomery County office, my days have been filled with cleaning and locating information for club days, volunteer statuses, and bank account information. I look forward to meeting with the Montgomery County 4-H Council for the first time in January.

This month was also my first time on KGGF Radio to talk about 4-H. I am amazed by the reach of radio programs and the number of phone calls I get from community members after being on the radio. This month I also attended programming meetings with Little Balkans and with district 4-H agents. I undertook the task of reworking our media/technology contest for club days across the region. I look forward to unveiling a Facebook Live or Adobe Spark contest for club days this year and hope it will renew the interest of youth.

December has been a long month for supporters and members of Montgomery County 4-H. The passing of a club leader’s husband and a recent 4-H alumni shook our community. As I attended services, I was overwhelmed by a sense of pride in our 4-H youth. Our youths’ attendance, their offers to help with chores, and their memorial ideas were very admirable. It was great to see the leadership and citizenship skills we instill in our youth in action.
