anuary has traditionally been a month full of meetings and trainings gearing up for the next programming year. This year has been no exception. I have been to a variety of programs as well as trainings provided in our area.

I attended the plant pathology and entomology training offered to all agriculture agents. This meeting was provided by Kansas State Extension specialists in Emporia. This was a great day of training that provided valuable information. One of the highlights from the day was the Dicamba training that was provided. This was important for all agents to attend since K-State Research and Extension will need to provide this training to all producers who will be applying this product for the 2018 growing season. There were also many other great topics and learning opportunities addressed.

I was able to attend and be a part of a few meetings that took place across our district. I attended a poultry grower meeting in Montgomery County that addressed questions on how to begin becoming a poultry grower for Tysons if this area is chosen. Dr. Scott Beyer, K-State Poultry Specialist, presented at the meeting. I also attended and assisted at an excellent Calving Management School provided by our district livestock and forages agent, Keith Martin. Keith along with Dr. AJ Tarpoff presented great information to the cattle producers in our area.

Also, this month, I have been part of the planning and selection committee for the soil conservation Bankers Award in Montgomery County. I serve as the chairman of this group. The conservation district held their annual meeting and I was able to help present the award and introduce the county’s Key Banker. The recipient of the award was very deserving and very grateful to be recognized for all of their hard work and accomplishments.

This month has provided many great learning opportunities. I hope to be able to use the information I have gained this past month to enhance my programs and outreach.
