Craig Newby is a 4-H dad, leader, coach, and fair board president. You can’t get more involved in all aspects of 4-H than Craig Newby. Since July is fair month, it seemed fitting to put the spotlight on our fair board president.

Due to space and time factors many fairs hold a few judging events before our time at the fairgrounds start. Craig makes it a point to be a clothing judging, the style revue, and the horse show, all events that happen pre-fair. He would be the first to tell you he doesn’t know anything about judging clothes but it’s great for him to be there representing the fair board and showing the youth they are part of the fair. The behind the scenes work never ends for the fair board president. Craig was the last one to bed and the first one up. You would find him behind the scenes answering questions, moving panels, hooking up speakers, and walking the barns for the night. Just because everyone leaves the fairgrounds doesn’t mean the fair is over. Buildings have to be power washed and things have to be cleaned and stored for next year. Not many people realize there is still work to be done after the “last day of fair”. We appreciate the countless hours and his personal money he uses to get the fair ready each year. These little things do not go unnoticed by veteran 4-H families!

Outside of the fair, Craig is a club leader for Fawn Creek 4-H Club and official 4-H youth transporter. Craig is always giving up his time and vacation days to drive youth to contests around the state. We appreciate his willingness to work with the youth and his patience to drive long road trips with a van of teenagers! He is an alumni of Montgomery County 4-H and now helping his youth and others “Learn to make the Best Better”.
