was the guest speaker for the Tuesday morning Kiwanis breakfast meeting at Via Christi’s Du Paul Hall in Pittsburg. We had a super meeting with approximately 40 regular members present. I began my presentation with a discussion about three invasive species that are, or soon will be affecting the southeast Kansas area; the Japanese beetle, callery pear, and Emerald Ash Borer. After that discussion I began my favorite presentation, Gardening Q & A. There were numerous questions and lots of tongue-in-cheek humor (especially about controlling moles).

Other scheduled activities include setting up horticulture judging contests at the Labette and Montgomery county fairs. I also presented a leaf printing activity for the Boys and Girls club in Coffeyville on July 25.

Wednesday morning (7:40 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.) radio shows on KGGF 690 AM in Coffeyville on July 18th and 25th. I took several days off to visit my mother-in-law and refinish her front entrance (worked in Mississippi heat and humidity for five days). I also took off to judge open class and 4-H plant science exhibits at the Bourbon, Neosho, Cherokee and Chautauqua county fairs.

Pre-recorded radio news stories: Insect Repellents, Care of Palms Indoors, Chiggers, and Tree Wound Healing.
