Wildcat Connection April 2019 | Page 37

Barbara Ames is the Nutrition, Health and Food Safety Family and Consumer Sciences Agent for the Wildcat Extension District. She began her Extension career as the Montgomery County Family and Consumer Sciences Agent in June of 2004, serving in that position until transitioning to her current position with the formation of Wildcat Extension District.

Barbara graduated from Pittsburg State University with a degree in Home Economics and a minor in Business Administration. Before coming to the Wildcat District, she was a Human Resources Generalist for a large company at their Fort Scott, Kansas office.

Growing up on a farm in Bourbon County, Barbara is thankful for her grounding in agriculture. She was a 4-H member as a youth and then a 4-H mom, serving as a Club Leader during her daughter’s 4-H years. She currently resides in Independence, but every now and then can be found at events in and around Osage County where her grandchildren are now third generation 4-Hers.

Barbara has a passion for Family and Consumer Sciences, and takes seriously the proven link between the lifestyle choices people make and their risk for chronic disease. She is committed to helping others enjoy healthier lives through sharing research-based information and encouraging healthier lifestyle choices. If you have questions regarding Barbara’s nutrition, health, and food safety programming, feel free to contact her at 620-331-2690
