Kirkland Lake Winter Carnival Ice Fishing Derby - Feb. 25, 2017

There is a $50,000 prize lot available for this derby, more than enough reason to check out this event. The derby takes place from 8 am to 2 pm at Otto Lake. There is also a free kids fish derby, for 18 and under, running at the same time. This event is fun for the whole family. It sold out last year and typically does, so get your ticket sooner than later. The kids portion features $100 cash prizes for top fish in weight and trophies. There are changes to the derby this year. The derby will feature a money draw for fish caught. Every time you catch a walleye or pike, you get a ballot entered into a draw for five draws of $1,000 for each species. There are also five tagged fish worth $5,000 each for a total of $25,000. The purchase of an entry ticket also places participants in an elimination draw for $5,000 and other prizes.

“There are a lot of ways to win money and people win money at this derby that is for sure,” Kirkland Lake festivals Committee Chair Julie Richard said. “The more winners, the better. It’s a good family-oriented and fun event.”
