Moose and Fiddle Music Festival (Aug. 18-20 in Sioux Narrows-Nestor Falls)

This festival can best be described best as a big, outdoor kitchen party. It features professional and emerging musicians, folk bands, country singer/songwriters on the outdoor stage with artisans, craft beer tent, music workshops, and food trucks on-site, all creating a village-like atmosphere. It takes place at Caliper Lake Provincial Park. The line-up of talent features Mike Procyshyn and Lonesome Boxcar, Sweet Alibi, Little Miss Higgins and Jonathan Roy. The Great Canadian Kayak Challenge and Festival (Aug. 26-28 in Timmins)

This event celebrates its eighth season in 2016. This non-gated event is showcase of kayak and stand up paddleboard challenges, seminars and workshops, arts and culture exhibitors and vendors, live performing arts which include free admission to live concerts as well as an interactive Aboriginal village, fireworks and many children’s activities. The races are a crowd-pleaser. The Elite Challenge (32-km) can offer up to $1,500 in both male and female divisions depending on the number of registrations.
