gear guide: the load up Have you ever looked at your tackle collection and thought “I’ve got too much stuff here”? Neither have we! Our team here at Wild Guide has a veritable armoury of rods and reels, ready for just about any fishing situation. And try as our spouses may, the collection just keeps growing. We’re really just a bunch of fishing nerds. When we’re not fishing we’re talking about gear, researching what’s hot and staying up to date on all the latest product launches and advancements in technology that might give us an edge. But lately, I’ve got to admit, its getting hard to keep up. It seems like new companies are cropping up almost daily and the selection of gear available to us is staggering. What makes it even tougher is a lot of the products that grab our interest may not be available at local tackle shops, so most anglers are forced to either stick with what’s available or buy something new, sight unseen. And while the latter may be fine for a new spinnerbait or minnow imitator, it can be tough to stomach if you’re going to drop some serious cash on a new rod or reel. We spent this summer testing out rods from three brands you might not find in your local shops, and we’re going to give you our honest opinions on each one. Wild Guide . Winter 2018 36
