At historic Exchange District restaurant Corrientes,
the menu is a love letter to Buenos Aires from
owners chef Alfonso Maury and his wife Roxana.
Chef Maury made a career working in Argentina’s
kitchens before moving to Winnipeg in 2009. At
Corrientes, specialties combine South American
classics: pizza (the result of a wave of Italian
immigrants to Argentina in the 20th century) and
empanadas. golden empanadas are stuffed with
creative ingredients like bacon and sweet dried prunes.
The love for classic foods of their home country
prompted the launch of a second venture, La Pampa,
last February. For Winnipeg diners in search of South
American flavour, Maury delivers the real deal. 137
