Not sure how to pass the time while waiting for your next flight at the Edmonton International Airport ? A new machine located between Gates 62 and 64 ( right next to the Living Wall ) has the answer : read a short story or poem ! In early December 2017 , EIA installed the Short Story Dispenser from France-based Short Edition . At the push of a button and no cost , the machine can print out a piece from nearly 100 authors based in the city — including Alice Major , Thomas Trofimuk , and Michael Hingston — and based in some of the airport ’ s non-stop European destinations , such as London and the Netherlands . You can even customize the length of the story depending on how much time you have : one , three , or five minutes .
Local publisher and writer Jason Lee Norman ( pictured ), who publishes Edmonton authors and stories through Monto Books ( montobooks . ca ), curated the Edmonton writing . The machine is the first of its kind in Canada and only the second one in the world to be located in an airport . After reading a few pieces from the dispenser , you may find yourself wishing for a layover at EIA so you can spend more time with it !
