Where ART Lives Magazine Volume 4 Number 2 | Page 79
I am so grateful that many years ago,
someone told me to pursue my dreams
and follow my heart. That certain someone
was also my best friend and husband of
almost 18 years.
Today, one of my greatest joys is to share
my passion, story and inspiration with
others. I love teaching and sharing this
big piece of my heart. All I ever needed to
know, I learned from being a kindergarten
teacher. Learn how to tie your shoes. Play a
lot. Color outside the lines. Share.
Wendy’s Tips for Cultivating a Daily Creative Practice
-Bring creativity into your living space, even if it’s just a sketchbook and pencil. I am
the most productive when I have some place to make art in the main living space of
my home. I rarely get art done if all my supplies are hidden away in some studio.
-Make time to get quiet and listen. Creativity loves solitude and reflection.
-Find the art process that makes your heart come to life, and do that over and over.
-Make art just for you. Now that I have a creative business, I have many projects and
commissions going at all times. But no matter how much I have to do, I always make
time to make art that has no purpose other than to bring my heart joy.
-Unplug and recharge. I believe now more than ever, we have to limit our time on
social media. I often take breaks from social media to create.
-Participate in a daily art challenge and make yourself accountable. Being creative on
a daily basis is sometimes hard to do unless you make it a habit out of your practice.
-Stay inspired. I find that creativity flows the best when I stay inspired. I keep a list of
new ideas so that I can look back to see what I want to pursue.
-Practice. Practice. Practice. I am always practicing new techniques or styles. This
helps me become a better artist and hone a specific skill.
-Keep your art making fresh by learning new mediums. I am always looking for new
mediums to explore. It keeps my art practice new and exciting. Never tried
