Mindy Lighthipe How often do you paint? How many hours a week? 20-30 hours. How would you like to be remembered? As an artist who has shared her passion for nature through her art and teaching others to do the same. How do you know when a painting is finished? I get to a point where I think I am done. Then I leave it for a day and come back to it with fresh eyes. If I have an “aha” moment I will know what else it needs. If nothing comes to me, I know that it is done. I have used this method to stop myself from overworking a piece. Once I declare it “done”. I sign it and never go back into it again. Do you have a favorite painting that you have collected by another artist? The Malaysian Moon Moth by John Cody. What is the most inspirational place you have visited to date? Costa Rica! I have been traveling, leading art tours and teaching there for over 30 years. I never get tired of the biodiversity. Where would you take your dream vacation? I love the tropics and every chance I get to take a trip to a rain forest I go! What brings you the most joy in your life? Exploring the beauty found in nature. If you could talk about art with a deceased master artist, who would it be? Maria Sybilla Marien Tell us something that few people know about you. I have a type “b” personality, and I create type “a” art...Oscar Madison doing Felix Unger work! Any other thoughts to share? I am grateful and thankful everyday to be able to do the work I do. I work hard but wouldn’t trade it for the world. mindylighthipe.com 74
