What is your first memory of creating art?
I was given a box of crayons at the age of 2. When I was 30 my grandmother gave me a
drawing I had given her drawn from that first box of crayons. It was abstract, looking no more
than a bunch of scribbles. I think I used every color in the box! My grandmother told me she knew
at that point that someday I would an artist.
Do you have a favorite piece that you have created? What makes it special to you?
In the beginning of my career as a Nature Artist I did a painting of a red-eyed tree frog. I have
used it as my logo. I have painted this frog many times as I love its comical, whimsical and
colorful personality.
Do you have a favorite artist you that you admire or that inspires you?
One of my favorite artists and friends is John Cody. I had the privilege of working with John,
learning from him and having him as a friend. He had a marvelous style and sense of color. He
passed away in 2017 and left a legacy of wonderful watercolor paintings that depicts the world
of insects and plants.
What do you listen to when you paint?
Pandora on my computer. Depending on my mood I switch the station.
What tool in your studio could you not live without?
My Rapesco Pencil Sharpener!
Do you have a favorite subject matter?
Insects!!!!
What is your preferred medium?
I love many...pen & ink, colored pencil, watercolor, gouache, pastel and more. I have a difficult
time sticking with just one medium as I enjoy so many.
