In what town and state is your art studio located? My studio is located just 4 miles from the Plaza in Santa Fe, New Mexico. What is your favorite thing about your studio? I really love the light and the amount of space I have. There is plenty of room to paint, write, sketch and add collections of books and art that add lots of color. It’s a happy place. Would you describe your studio as messy or neat? When I am painting on a new series it can be a bit messy. I spread out and the canvases can be leaning around in various stages of the process. My work is heavy layers of paint that go on and then are hosed off outside in between. I can work on one while another is drying before more paint is applied and hosed off. Is your studio located in or out of your home? My Casa Rio Studio building is about 10 yards from our house. I can hear the Tesuque River running along the back of the house as I walk over. There are huge elm and aspen trees for shade and the studio windows let in great light. What do you do to set the creative mood in your studio before you begin creating art? Just going into the studio is usually enough inspiration. I take my coffee and go in, turn on the lights and then music. In the morning I will play softer calmer music. In the afternoon I can crank it up to keep moving. I like a change of pace but listen to everything from Barry White, Jimmy Webb, the 50s, Bonnie Raitt, classical guitar, Ronnie Milsap, Andrea Bocelli to Michael Jackson. 111
