Where ART Lives Magazine Volume 3 Number 2 | Page 98

Kathy Baker Mackey How often do you paint? How many hours a week? Not enough!!!! I try 3-4 days a week, 5-6 hours. How would you like to be remembered? I hope as someone who let her light shine for others to see. I hope for the art someone pur chased for their home or office that it brings to the space a joy, happiness, emotion, a dialog, smiles. How do you know when a painting is finished? Wow, a hard one... With some paintings, I just know, the minute the last stroke is placed on the canvas. Others take longer...sometimes has to be taken off the easel and looked at a day or so later. What is the most inspirational place you have visited to date? I have traveled to many beautiful places, Italy, Greece, Germany, Austria, BVI, many islands, throughout our nation. But, one place remains number 1 in my heart and it is New Mexico. I have traveled to NM since I was a child. I remain in awe of the beauty. Where would you take your dream vacation? My dream vacation was in 2012. After several visits to Italy, we rented a villa for two weeks. We traveled around the back roads, the villages, the towns. Truly a dream!! What brings you the most joy in your life? My family...an amazing daughter...a more amazing granddaughter...a great son-in-law who is a great husband and father...a precious “granddog”...my husband who has always supported my art passion. My art brings me joy. A few years ago a different story started to evolve on the canvas. These days, I can’t wait to get to the studio, place a canvas on the easel, turn on the music, and let the story began. Tell us something that few people know about you. At 30 years old, I hiked to the top of Mt. Katahdin in Maine. It is the highest point in Maine and the northern most point of the Appalachian Trail. While terrifying it was also exhilarating. it took me eight hours to the top and four hours back to the bottom!!! kathybakermackeyart.com 98
