Bob Shepherd How often do you paint? How many hours a week? Four or five days a week for always 3 hours at a time...not 2, not 4. How would you like to be remembered? As the Greatest Artist Who Ever Lived! As the great Billy Bob Harris always said “Any damn fool can shoot for a stump and hit it. I’d rather be the fool who shoots for the stars...even if he keeps missing.” How do you know when a painting is finished? I put it on the mantle with the light like everybody else has above their mantle. When I can’t see any mistakes...it’s finished. Do you have a favorite painting that you have collected by another artist? Many. One from Ann Manry Kenyon, another by Sarah Kitagawa, and a great drawing from Debbie Collier that we bought ages ago. What is the most inspirational place you have visited to date? Delph. Where would you take your dream vacation? Every summer at our cabin in Cloudcroft, New Mexico. I built a studio last year and teach every August to small groups of 2 or 3. What brings you the most joy in your life? My grandkids. Tell us something that few people know about you. I don’t keep it a secret but I’m colorblind. Green weak. I believe VanGogh had the same blessing. People think it might be a hindrance, not seeing green correctly, but you have to understand I see ALL the other colors better than you. And green will alway be there if yellow and blue collide. portraitsbyshep.com 74
