Where ART Lives Magazine Volume 2 Number 4 | Page 54

Linda Popple June 2016 What is your first memory of creating art? When I was about 5 years old I was helping my mother in the garden and noticed the bright colors of the zinnias. The zinnias were the same colors in my new box of crayons. I grabbed my crayons and paper and drew the garden. Do you have a favorite piece that you have created? What makes it special to you? “Wet Streets” is one of my favorite paintings. It is the first piece of art I created that made me feel like a true artist. Do you have a favorite artist you that you admire or that inspires you? I would be unable to name all the artists I admire, but to name a few, Mary Cassatt, Van Gogh, and Rembrandt. A few contemporary artists are Catherine Kehoe, Jon Redmond, Stuart Shils and Maggie Siner. What do you listen to when you paint? I like Pandora Radio because I listen to a variety of music from classical to current, jazz, country, just about anything. A few favorites are Etta James, Melody Gardot and Alabama Shakes. What tool in your studio could you not live without? Besides my brushes, I’d have to say my computer. I paint mostly from photographs and my computer holds all my reference photos. I’m also able to crop and create value studies. Do you have a favorite subject matter? I like painting just about any subject, but at the moment I love painting faces. lindapopple.com 54
