Rebecca Zook How often do you paint? How many hours a week? It varies greatly. I work full time as a Senior Graphic Designer, so I have to plan my fine art painting around projects going on in my “day job.” How would you like to be remembered? As an artist, I would like to be remembered as someone who continued to push and better herself. As a person, I would like to be remembered as someone who never gave up, no matter the odds or circumstances. How do you know when a painting is finished? That is not an easy question. Usually, I ‘know.’ Other times something nonspecific is bothering me about the piece. I must set it aside for a couple weeks and come back to it with fresh eyes. The issue will be clear then and I’ll resolve it. Where would you take your dream vacation? I have not traveled outside the United States. Travel can be difficult due to multiple medical issues I have to work around, but my husband and I have a trip planned for Scotland in a couple years. We plan to rent a caravan and visit rural, less touristy parts of the country. My dream though, would be to see Iceland. Any vacation I take focuses on nature more than anything else. The natural landscape touches me more than anything man-made ever could. What brings you the most joy in your life? I think real joy in one’s life is brought about by balance. I truly see my life as being filled with joy. My relationship with my husband, a house full of rescued cats, dogs and birds, my garden and my craft make up parts of a whole. Keeping my life in balance is the key to my happiness. Tell us something that few people know about you. Ha! Anyone that follows my personal Facebook feed and blog knows that I don’t keep much to myself. I’ve shared the deepest, most painful aspects of my life in the hope that what I’ve been through will benefit others...and to show there is light and hope at the other end. No one should feel alone in their pain. I asked my husband to chime in for an answer. He suggested my semi-hatred of shoes. I am barefoot the majority of the time and have even forgot to bring shoes to work on occasion. http://rebeccazook.com 36
