I paint what is seasonally glorious, subtly dynamic in nature, people and sometimes
what is created by our industry. I paint moments and experiences that would be
too quickly forgotten if not recorded by a camera to interpret with paint on canvas
in my studio. Painting on location is another way I record time and the sprit of a
place with paint and canvas.
Whether I choose to paint where I live or travel to paint the unfamiliar, I am
recording an experience. The subjects of the experience become the elements in
the painting. I use the shapes, color, lines and values in a composition to create,
capture and to interpret my visual experience. Limiting myself to one subject has
never been possible. There are too many patterns, compositions, colors and light
created by humans and in nature for me to ignore and leave without recording
when they inspire me.
Painting is a way to record my life’s experience. My intention is to paint the
moment, to engage the viewer who may savor the visual experience.
