Where ART Lives Magazine Volume 1 Number 4 | Page 38

Carmen Beecher June 2015 When did you realize you loved art and wanted to be ‘an artist’? I’ve wanted to be an artist ever since I was a child. I was alone much of the time and I amused myself with drawing. When I think back to my childhood I can still smell the Crayons. Who has been the greatest influence from your past to mentor you to this career? My Uncle Ray always encouraged me and bought me books and supplies. When he was in college, he got me into an art class for future teachers, and they didn’t seem to mind having a twelve-year-old in their class. It was a lot of fun. Who is your mentor today, or another artist you admire and why? I have studied several times with my friend Qiang Huang, and he is not only a fabulous teacher, he is a delight to be around. We talk about art constantly and he is a huge influence. What is your favorite surface to paint on? Describe it if you make it yourself. I use Panelli Telati canvas panels. What brand of paints do you use? I use Winsor Newton and Gamblin most often. Do you have a favorite color palette? Titanium White, Lemon yellow, Cad Yellow, Yellow Ochre, Cad Red Light, Alizarin Crimson, Ultramarine Blue, Cerulean Blue, and Viridian. www.carmenbeecher.com 38
