Sharon Sieben January 2015 When did you realize you loved art and wanted to be ‘an artist’? When I was 10 years old and my Father gave me a set of Oil Paints. My first painting was of a jack rabbit in a desert which may have been prophetic, since I was born and raised in Indiana, but now live in Mesa, AZ among the Sonoran Saguaros. Who has been the greatest influence from your past to mentor you to this career? All of the impressionist artists, but especially Paul Cezanne. Who is your mentor today, or another artist you admire and why? Ghingher Leyendecker, who teaches “Life Drawing” at Mesa community college. She opened up a whole new vista of the human body; Nudes have become my favorite subject. What is your favorite surface to paint on? Describe it if you make it yourself. Canvas.
