Each month, we want to highlight a consumer of the AZSCIA, hear about their personal story and journey with SCI, and read about all the remarkable things they've accomplished and continued to do within the community.

This month, we are highlighting Nicholas Pelland. He is going to tell us about his injury story, challenges he faces living with SCI, and advice he has for individuals who are newly injured. Please take a few minutes to read Nicholas's empowering story.

Hello, my name is Nicholas Pelland. I was at a family barbeque and my ex-brother-in-law (Stuart) got into an altercation with another family member (Ruben). So I got on the phone with Ruben to deesculate the situation. Ruben Ruben felt I was disrespecting him over the phone, but at the time, he was drunk and high on meth. So he came over to my cousin Kim's house where we were having the barbeque. He entered through the garage door while my back was turned to him and starting punching me. I turned around and started fighting him back. I was getting the best of him. The fight went from the living room to the garage where I picked him up and body slammed him. Then I tripped over some bike and my head laneded in hi slap. He pulled an
