Each month, we want to highlight a consumer of the AZSCIA, hear about their personal story and journey with SCI, and read about all the remarkable things they've accomplished and continued to do within the community.

This month, we are highlighting Brittany Johnson. She is going to tell us about her injury story, challenges she faces living with SCI, and advice she has for individuals who are newly injured. Please take a few minutes to read Brittany's inspiring story.

Hello, my name is Brittany. In September 2010, I was 20 years old and living in Atlanta with my mom and my eight-month-old daughter. I was just leaving some apartments, hopped into the car with my friends and a man approached our car with a .45 pistol and asks for all of our money. When he only received $20 from us, guess he decided that wasn't enough, took a step back, and opened fire into the car. My friend luckily had a pistol, shot back and the guy was shot 4 times in the chest before dying. Wow, I couldn't believe what was happening. The irony was; I was 20, the shooter was 20, and I was shot over $20.

We then drove off and realized that 3 out of the 4 people in the car had been shot. I was the only one to actually become paralyzed, one friend was shot in the
