Message from the Executive Director,
Welcome to the August edition of Wheel World News! Summertime may be coming to an end but that doesn't mean the activities stop! There are many upcoming activities and events going on within the community this month. Be sure to get involved!
This month, our Spotlight Story is about our upcoming 2nd Annual Splendid Spa Day, in honor of September bring SCI Awareness Month. Visit pages 3-4 to read about the event and how you can sign up today! Splendid Spa Day is a day of pampering and relaxation for women of ALL abilities.
If you are wanting to become more involved this month in the SCI community, there are plenty of summertime events happening this month that could help you with that. Read about all the upcoming events happening this August, including Bingo Night, Self-Defense Classes, and Adaptive Hiking in the Current Events section on pages 5-6. For this month’s “Consumer Corner” segment, we are highlighting David Carey with Ability360. Read his personal and inspiring story on pages 7-11. Also, be sure to check out our featured professional of the month in the "Professional Profile"
segment on pages 13-14 where we interviewed Jui Chiu with the City of Phoenix, who is also the instructor for our "Don't be a Victim!" Self Defense Classes (check page 6 for details on the upcoming class!).
