SPEED LIMIT(er)?

Happy October everybody! Thank you for checking out my column again. Last month I explained the importance of oil in your vehicle, and I hope you have all changed or at least checked your oil since then ha ha. This month I’ll be short as I will be talking about limiting the speed of almost any vehicle.

For those of you who know me, it’s probably a shock that I’m talking about limiting the speed of a vehicle. But recently we serviced a commercial van because the check engine light was on. We diagnosed the problem and told the owner that the only reason why the light was on was because their employee set off the manufacturers excessive speed indicator in the computer. Needless to say that boss was not happy and asked what could be done about it. Well, short of firing that employee for driving recklessly in the company van, I could limit the speed of that van to whatever speed you would like. Without hesitation we were told to do so and set the maximum speed of that van to 79 mph.

After doing this I thought to myself, this would be the perfect service to offer anyone who might have a teenager who just started driving, an elderly parent or grandparent (who refuses to stop driving), or even a disabled person who would feel more comfortable driving if they knew their vehicle couldn’t go completely out of control and exceed a speed that they are comfortable with. I’ve heard stories in the past of those whom have had spasms while driving and hit the throttle unexpectedly. If the vehicle was limited to a certain speed you wouldn’t have to worry about losing control while still accelerating. Therefore increasing your safety and everyone else’s.

If this is something you’re interested in doing, let me know. If you are the kind of person who never goes onto the highway, we can limit your vehicle to 50mph. I’d suggests no lower than 70mph, but it’s up to you! Either way, this is only $300 - $500 to do depending on the model vehicle you drive.

I hope you have a great October and maybe I’ll see some of you at the Dead Horse Ranch on the 20th. Otherwise I’ll be back in here for November!
