Recently Jon and I opened our own gun store- Hits & Misses at 6750 W. Peoria Ave. Peoria, 85345. I know there are people out there who have been injured by gun fire, but we believe in educating people on gun safety, how and when to use them as well as educating the public that they can be fun to use when taught the proper way of when, where, how. It’s all about educating!

Several years ago I was on the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation website. A student from Glasgow University was interested in the role of empowerment after a disability. This is the response I gave. I hope you get as much out of it as I do now, rereading it almost 10 years later!

I was injured pretty badly and thank my mom and dad for helping me to stay here on earth where I might be of some help and or inspiration to someone who is newly injured. I lost my mom in April 1996 and dad in May 2002 so I figured they're back together again and they didn't want me up there just yet with them. They're enjoying the peace and quiet without kids! LOL.

Sure it sucks to live in a chair, but I figure it beats the alternative! It's not the end of the world but the beginning of a whole new life. A lot of people celebrate with a re-birthday, which in a sense, makes sense. We're given a whole new chance to live again, so why not make the best of it while we're here. Love life and live life to the fullest! Sure, you can sit around feeling sorry for yourself or you can go out and make a difference in someone else's life! I hope I do every time I talk to someone.

Did I blame anyone for the accident? Sure I did! I also believe in Karma- what goes around, comes around! The person who put me in the chair will get his one day...I just HOPE it's not one of their family members or friends.

Did I sit around and think- Why me? No, I don't ever remember doing that. I do remember waking up one of the first times- my girlfriend Audrey from Utah and Jon were there in the ICU with me. The nurses had just brought dinner- mashed potatoes & peas of all things! This will be fun I thought- NOT!
