Each month, we want to highlight a member of our board of directors. This month we are highlighting Don Price, the President of the Board of Directors. Read about who Don is and why he volunteers his time to serve on AZSCIA's board of directors.

MEET THE BOARD

Don Price is originally from Wisconsin, but moved to Arizona in 1986 to attend Arizona State University. He is a proud Sun Devil and supports ASU sports, especially football, baseball and hockey. Don lives in Tempe and loves the energy and diversity of the area.

Don lives a very full life with a spinal cord injury. In 1982, just out of high school, he dove into a lake in WI, hit his head on a shallow sandbar and sustained a cervical spinal injury at the C5-6 level. As a person with quadriplegia, Don knows firsthand how a spinal injury changes the life of those injured, as well as those of their family and friends. While a SCI can be devastating at first, Don believes that with the proper support, knowledge and resources those with spinal injuries can live a full, productive, healthy and happy life.

Don is happy to be involved with the Arizona Spinal Cord Injury Association to help the organization be one of those positive resources for anyone whose life has been impacted by paralysis. He has said that “there is a community of people with spinal injuries, and we’re there to help each other, like any community would do. All members of this community should feel safe to reach out for help when they need it.”

In his free-time Don likes reading, fishing, traveling and hanging out with friends. He’s especially fond of exploring Arizona and microbreweries wherever he can find them.

I volunteer to be involved with the AZSCIA because I understand the value and importance of having support after sustaining an injury. When I was first paralyzed I really didn’t have any resources available to me—that was 1982 and I lived in a small town in WI with very few mentors or services.

Why do you volunteer your time to serve on AZSCIA's Board of Directors?
