Message from the Executive Director,

Welcome to the September edition of Wheel World News. September is SCI Awareness Month, so we have plenty of events in store for the weeks to come!

Our second Bingo Night will be held on October 6th. A $10 donation gets you in the door with a pack of 10 Bingo games. With additional donations, you will receive more Bingo cards to play more games! For more information, see pages 2-3. Soak up the last bit of AZ heat at the 21st Annual Day on the Lake. If you want to be part of this fun weekend, register on page 4. Also coming up this month is our new Women’s Support Group facilitated by Karen Halgren. To read about the Women’s Support Group other September events happening within the disability community, see pages 4-5. Some events to look forward to in October include the Miracle League Adaptive Baseball game and Wheeling in Nature, you can find more about these events on page 7. This month we will have two Living Healthy with SCI classes. Topics are “The Management and Prevention of Secondary Conditions” and “Language of Love.” Read more about these classes on pages 10-11. Our Consumer Corner this month highlights Tim Surry. You can find his SCI story on pages 12-15. On pages 21-23, you will find out information on Duel in the Desert, Advanced Wheelchair Skills classes, and upcoming Don’t Be a Victim: Self-Defense for Wheelchair Users classes.
