Broder Daniel and Movits!

When one speaks of Swedish music one
often speaks of artists like Avicii, Swedish
House Maffia, Robyn etc. – but we don’t
intend to write about them in this article.
We intend to write about bands that we
actually like – Movits! and Broder Daniel.
Broder Daniel
Broder Daniel (in
English Brother
Daniel)
is
an
alternative rock band
formed
in
Gothenburg in 1989.
The band is known
for its original sound,
and very original style. They are most
often dressed in darker clothes (which they
claim is purely coinsidental) and the lead
singer: Henrik Berggren often has little
silver stars glued under his eyes. The
songs they make often have a bit sad lyrics
and a sad tone to it. The band hade their
major breakthrough with the album Broder
Daniel forever, and their career really
started evolving into something big after
their songs were in the swedish movie
Fucking Åmål. Broder Daniel has had 7
members in the band. Some of them
joined at the beginning of the bands career,
some of them joined later. The band
members are:
1989-1995
Johan Neckvall – Guitar – 1992-1997
Some of the band members had side
careers in bands you may have heard of.
For example Theodor Jensen formed a
band called The Plan and Håkan Hellström
became one of swedens most popular
artists ever and he had Daniel Gilbert in his
band. The band was active until 2008 and
stopped because of the tragic death of
Anders Göthberg. They had their last
concert (a tribute to Anders) at the Way
out West festival in Gothenburg in 2008,
which at least 10.000 people attended to.
Movits!
There’s three band members in Movits!:
The two brothers Anders and Johan
Rensfeldt and Jocke Nilsson.
Movits! (there is actually a “!” in the name)
released their debut album in November
2008 . The album was called
“Äppelknyckarjazz” and the reviews were
not negative. The genre of music is kind of
hard to explain since it’s a mix between
hiphop and swing jazz. The weird thing is
that Movits! sings in Swedish, not English,
but they still tour the world. You don’t need
to know Swedish to like Movits!, which I
personally think is a cool thing.
Movits! was on American television in July

Guitar – 1989-2008
Anders Göthberg – Guitar and keyboard – first album. The appearance made them
famous in the USA and resulted in a tour in
1993-2008
the USA.
Pop-Lars – Drums – 1994-2008
Theodor Jensen – Baseguitar, guitar and Altogether Movits! has released three
singer – 1995-2003 och 2005-2008
albums; “Äppelknyckarjazz” (2009), “Ut ur
Håkan Hellström – Drums, baseguitar and min skalle” (2011) and most recently
singer – 1989-1994 och 1997-2002
“Huvudet bland molnen” in September
Daniel Gilbert – Baseguitar and keyboard – 2013, which they will tour Scandinavia,
Europe and Japan with it.
