advancement of science of his time. He was a militant for the introduction of the m e t r i c- d e c i m a l i n Wa l l a c h i a . He contributed to the development of scientific printed Romanian heritage, which was quite weak in the middle of the 19th century and translated the first c o u r s e s i n g e o m e t r y a n d a l g e b ra “ E l e m e n t s o f A l g e b r a A p p e l t a u e r, translated into Latin with some modifications of P. Poenaru and together with Aaron Florian and G. Hill, develops the first French-Romanian dictionary. In the history of universal inventive, Petrache Poenaru is known as the creator of the first heel pumps, known at that time as “stilograf”. At only 28 years old, Petrache Poenaru patented the first fountain pen in the world in Vienna and then in Paris in 1827 (when he was a student), entitled “Endless pen fueling itself with ink ” and becomes the owner of the first patent obtained by a Romanian. The patent does not only show Romanian student ingenuity, it also shows the originality of conception, as simple as it is practical. Petrache Poenaru’s i n v e n t i o n revolutionized the field of writing instruments, thereby creating an object used today by billions of people. “ Poenaru ” pen with ink tank was a forerunner of the modern pen , removed scratches on paper and ink leakages and proposed solutions to improve parts so as to ensure a steady flow of ink and the possibility of replacing parts . His system to push ink to the top of the pen was fitted by gentle pressure of the pipe, which is great progress in this area and will later lead to the invention of the piston. But Poenaru failed or was not sufficiently strong in using his invention. Later, Lewis Edson Waterman took the Romanian idea, transforming it into a pen that could be filled its quill, in 1884, producing a more secure flow of ink. In the last decades of the twentieth century, with the growing popularity of cheap writing objects, pens were used only as a less popular option. But today they are gaining more attention, becoming a form of representation of personal style, a modern accessory, a collector’s item or a status symbol. Pen with blower Petrache Poenaru is the first Romanian who traveled by train. On 15 September 1830, the UK opened the first railway in the world, which linked Liverpool and Manchester. On 27 October 1831, the young man Petrache Poenaru , being on a journey to study in England said: “I made this trip with a new vehicle of transport, which is one of the century’s industrial wonders … Twenty carriages linked with each other, loaded with 240 people are dragged by a single steam engine … “ For his merits, P. Poenaru was rewarded with the titles ” Mare Comis ” ( 1834 ) , ” Mare Culcer ” ( 1841 ) and ” Aga ” ( 1851 ) . This is undeniably the story of Romanian Petrache Poenaru, inventor of the pen, perhaps too little known , perhaps too little mentioned.
