Should American citizens bear firearms? By Julie Many Americans feel that they have the need to bear firearms. Why is that? Do American people feel so insecure that they need to protect themselves with guns? What are the main reasons WHY Americans feel that they need firearms? Is it good or bad for the security of American people? The main reason for bearing arms is that many Americans feel that they become more secure and will not be as exposed for robbing, housebreaking and violence if they had a pistol or any other type of weapon. As Peter Venetoklis says, “Taking my gun away because I might shoot someone is like cutting my tongue out because I might yell `Fire!’ in a crowded theater.”[1] Is this right. Does the problem lie in the gun? I will come back to that later. What will all the firearms do to society? All people might be paranoid and afraid of everyone they meet and being afraid is never a good solution. The security to American people can either be better with guns in the society, or it can turn and be worse. By bearing arms, you never know if the people you meet in the street have a gun or if you can trust them. Guns should be used to protect yourself, your nearest family and your personal belongings from other people. The question is would you feel more secure if everyone had a gun, or would you feel more secure without. Even though you have a gun, you cannot shoot someone every time you feel a threat. It should not be used unless your life is in danger. Is the problem the gun in itselves? As Robert Bennett says in his statement, “We should not blame a gun itself for any crime or any acts of violence, any more than we can blame a pen for misspelling a word.”[2] Therefore, the main problem is not about the gun, it is about the gun getting in the wrong hands. With more guns, there would sadly probably be more lives lost. Not all lives are lost because of guns being used for criminal actions, but guns in the hands of people who do know how to control themselves and people who do not know how to control a gun. Guns can be bad for many people; it is not sure that you always feel more secure with more guns in society. Having a gun can help you in many situations to feel safe, but guns in the wrong hands can be dramatic and dangerous. By having guns allowed, people could be more insecure and adults will be more afraid for their children and people they care for. Guns can be both safer for the society and can be worse and cause more insecurity. [1]Quote, Peter Venetoklis.
