Tradition CROATIA Grape picking in Vis by Mina Island of Vis has long tradition of grape picking, we call it Jematva. Since ancient Greeks, people of Vis have been growing grapes. The wine quote was over 20 000 liters per year, but in nowdays the number is much smaller. Lots of vinyards are not in use and just a few famillies are following tradition. This weekend I had a chanse to go with my friend and his familly to pick grapes. At first I wasn’t sure about going there but I decided to go after all. We got up at 6 a.m. and went to the vinyard. First we had brekfast and then we started picking. We had so much fun. We were singing and talking. We did all the work in just one hour and a half. At the end, we had to bring all grapes to the tractor. Then one person had to sit on the grapes while the other was driving. I decided to sit on the grapes and I didn’t regret it. It was great! When we got to the wine cooperative in the town, all tourist were looking at us because they have never seen that before. After that we gave grapes to the cooperative and got money for it. I will go again next year!
