Sarmisegetuza Regia: Dacian fortress hiddent mysteries

magical, giving off subtle energies. It has
a diameter of 30 meters and consists of
three concentric circles.
Sarmisegetuza Regia is the largest GetoDacian fortress of our country. It was the
military, religious and political centre of
the Dacian world. Sarmisegetuza means
“Castle on the rock.” It was built about
1200 m above ground, is an ideal
observation point. It has a quadrilateral
shape and is made of massive blocks of
stone. An astonishing thing about the
Dacian civilization is that over 2,000
years ago, they had paved roads and
sewage systems. The Dacians, the
ancestors of Romanians, were related to
the Celts and suffered several invasions
by the Roman people.
Sacred shrines and ingenuous
astronomical calendars
If you are passionate about religion and
missing people you have to see the
sacred
shrine in Sarmisegetuza
Regia. The sanctuaries were
built outside the city, on a
terrace. They are accessed
by a paved road. The best
known are andesite and
Sanctuary of the Sun.
The English likened this
place to Stonehenge, as the
Great Sanctuary was used as
a calendar. Over time, there

Dacians knew the secrets of astronomy
and had a very precise way to calculate
the time. The andesite sun calendar is
surprisingly accurate. The sanctuary is a
circular platform, on the outer
circumference having a radius of 10m. It
can be compared with the .famous Mayan
c a l e n d a r. H o w e v e r, i t r e m a i n s
a mystery how it was built. The materials
from which it is made were brought from
great distances of over 100 kilometers.
Rituals are believed to have taken place
here, similar to those of the Druids in
Britain.
Sarmisegetuza fortress is part
