ROMANIA Transfagarasan By Roxana History of the Road Transf?g?r??an was built between 1970 – 1974 during the reign of Nicolae Ceausescu, who wanted to provide a strategic road over the mountains. The inauguration took place in September 20 1974. The road over Fagaras Mountains was done with considerable material efforts and with the price of many lives of soldiers and workers who contributed to its construction. It is said that 40 people died for this road to cross the mountains, but after 35 years people are talking about hundreds. Responding to an interview, a witness said that only at the construction of the dam died about 400 boys. Route Road DN7C – Transf?g?r??an start in Bascov village, Arges County near the town of Pitesti, Arges towards the town of Curtea de Arges and ends at the intersection with the road DN1 between Sibiu and Brasov, near the village Câr?i?oara, with a length of 151 km. Transf?g?r??an (the prefix “trans-” + Fagaras) is part of the National Road 7C (DN7C) and is one of the most spectacular roads in Romania, called “path of light“, which links the historical region of Wallachia and Transylvania. One of the most difficult sections of Transf?g?r??an is between Balea Lake and Balea Waterfall. Transf?g?r??an go over 830 bridges, 27 viaducts. For its construction it had to be deployed several million tons of rock. For that, it were used: 6520 tons of dynamite, of which 20 tonnes only for the tunnel Capra – Bale and many other building materials.
