Society ROMANIA Let’s do it, Romania! By Iulia and Georgiana “Let’s do it!” is a civic movement that started from Estonia, where people all over the world joined a series of local, national and regional clean-up events. “Let’s do it!” started in 2008 and by the end of 2011 more than 2.5 million people had participated in “Let’s Do It!” including Romania. Saturday, September 28, each of us can pull an alarm signal and can go out to clean. Campaign volunteers have already discovered dirty areas, many of them cleaned last year. Unfortunately, people continue to throw garbage. In recent years, volunteers have gathered a total of two million tons of garbage. And at the end of the day teams must announce where they left the garbage, so the ! sanitation companies can come and pick it up. Students in our school have been taking part in this campaign for the last three years. Not only is it our duty to keep the city and the country clean, it is also an opportunity to work together for a good cause. This year volunteers have proposed to recycle 40% of waste collected selectively. In the last three editions of “ L e t ’ s d o i t R o m a n i a ”, 6 5 0 , 0 0 0 Romanians declared war to waste. This activity aims to attract the attention of people who throw garbage in places other than those specifically arranged. 12
