WRGO SPECIAL INTEREST ARTICLES Nicole and Scotty: “Unchartered Waters” My name is Nicole and I am a 17 year old singer/songwriter and lead vocalist in a musical duo between my 12 year old brother Scotty and me. Our band name is, "Nicole & Scotty: Unchartered Waters". Scotty is truly a young musical prodigy and plays a total of six instruments which include electric guitar, acoustic guitar, dobro guitar, pedal steel guitar, mandolin and piano/keyboard. He writes and composes music for a total of eight instruments, adding bass guitar and drums. Nicole in the studio Together we create original compositions; I flow in the melodies and lyrics. We also cover a wide variety of music and artists of all genres, but our favorites are Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley, who are our biggest inspirations and our most covered artists. Our own personal genre and what we are most comfortable in currently is something between Americana and Folk Rock music, but we sometimes venture beyond and try out classic or even soft rock sounds. Scotty and I have been working dedicatedly and lovingly for Scotty in month on our upcoming debut E.P., "Nicole the & Scotty: Unchartered Waters". It can be studio purchased on the Web site. Scotty and I enjoy the whole process of bringing our CD with our music immensely, we wrote for it and produced it ourselves. It's like this great big for us, the journey we have always wanted to take and we love it. We love creating music above all else. It's our very meaning in life, our true purpose and reason. When we write together, everything is at peace, everything flows, there is love radiating, powerful. Nicole, Scotty and their drummer, Paloma, performing at a local show We are very close friends as siblings, but in those moments when we "step into the flow" as Michael would say, we are closer than ever, our love for each other the strongest. It's truly an incredible God sent gift. Scotty been playing guitar for only two and a half years, but has excelled to the point of surpassing college level in music theory and plays over 500 songs by memory. He first took interest in arts and music when he was 10 when our mom enrolled him in group guitar lessons in our home school program. He advanced so quickly through the class that the instructor moved him from the beginners to the most advanced in less than six month. 52
