The MoonWalk Scotland 2014 – be a hero! It’s Scotland’s original, iconic Midnight walk, and on Saturday 7th June 2014, The MoonWalk Scotland will be back for the ninth consecutive year. Entries are already open! Organised by grant-making breast cancer charity Walk the Walk, The MoonWalk sees thousands of women and men wearing the charity’s trademark brightly decorated bras Power Walking the streets of Edinburgh at Midnight, to raise money and awareness for breast cancer. There is a Power Walking distance at The MoonWalk for every age and ability – children as young as ten can take on the 6.55 miles New Moon challenge, introduced for the first time in 2013. For older walkers, there’s the Half Moon (13.1miles), Full Moon (26.2 miles) or Over The Moon (52.4 miles). Every year, The MoonWalk has a special theme – in 2014, Edinburgh will be overflowing with “superheroes” of all shapes and sizes, from Wonder Woman to Superman, Robert the Bruce to Sir Chris Hoy, and maybe a few Mary Dolls and Rab C Nesbitts! Walk the Walk is expecting some crazy creations, as Walkers are inspired to decorate their bras, by people or characters who’ve inspired them. Since the first Scottish MoonWalk in 2006, Walkers have raised a staggering £16 million, with most of that money staying in Scotland, to help improve the lives of people with cancer. Walk the Walk makes a huge difference across the country, granting large amounts to projects and charities who would otherwise take many years to raise the money on their own. Walk the Walk has made grants to Maggie’s Cancer Care Centres in Glasgow, Larbert and Airdrie; for Scalp Cooling machines in hospitals throughout Scotland and to the Breast Cancer Institute in Edinburgh for projects including the renovation of the Mammography Unit.
