Township of Union Students Stand Up for Change

About 1,000 Union High School students took part in a walk-out Wednesday morning, taking a stand against numerous issues that have arisen one month after the Parkland shooting that killed 17 high school students.

Students stood quietly on the football field during the 17-minute silence in tribute to those Parkland students.

Like their older counterparts at Union High School, middle school students in Union were able to have their voices heard yesterday during National Walk-Out day in honor of the Parkland school shooting.

Kawameeh Middle School used the opportunity to host an 30-minute advisory period. Students watched a video about Rachel’s Challenge, an organization created after the Columbine High School shooting by victim Rachel Scott’s father.

The goal of Rachel's Challenge is to start a chain reaction of kindness. During this advisory period, students were asked to reflect on how they can contribute to making Kawameeh and society as a whole a better place through kindness.

And Burnet Middle School held a remembrance ceremony for the loss of lives of the Parkland students. Several Burnet students wrote speeches from the heart and presented them to their peers.
