Union High School Performing Arts Company Awarded $10,000 grant from NBC; also receive special surprise from the cast of Rise

The Union High School Performing Arts Company was one of 50 high schools across the country to receive a $10,000 NBC ‘s R.I.S.E. America grant!. R.I.S.E America is inspired by NBC’s new drama Rise, about a high school theater department. UHSPAC senior Ronin Ruste created the submission video. He interviewed his fellow peers, filmed footage of rehearsals, edited the video and took such care with the submission video. He truly captured the heart of the program. They also submitted an essay discussing the program and some of the difficulties they face to put on our productions.

Additionally, the UHSPAC was selected as the only school in the country to see an advance screening of RISE. The students and staff were also treated to a surprise appearance by the show's stars Rosie Perez, Josh Radnor and Damon J.. Gillespie. The show’s creator/Executive Producer Jason Katims and Executive Producer Flody Suarez were also on hand. The event was captured by a film crew at NBC and was featured in People Magazine!
