To Die

by Raini St. John

To die would be such a great adventure

To release that which built and buried

In the years of the living

Into the emptiness of the dead

To feel the tears unshed of so many years

The sadness, the fear, the anger, the joy

To feel them seep away into the void

And never bother again

To unravel the tension

Massed from such weight of shoulders so weak

And let it be gone from being

To know the secrets of the world

And never truly know at all

To see the vast plains at the end of the path

But never reach that end

Such is to die, and to know the dead

To live would be such a great adventure
