Sleep

by Raini St. John

I haven’t slept in a long time

I haven’t found peace

My own peace

There is no rest

I do not float on clouds

Or laugh with people I love

When the darkness falls and blackness comes

I do not see loved ones

Or fields of flowers, swaying softly in the breeze

Creeks trickling in their path through

Quiet forest trees

I do not see the birds fly

I do not see the sun, or feel its warmth upon my skin

I do not see the life tree, stretching towards the sky

Blooming with flowers, each one a blossom of laughter

My own peace

I haven’t found peace

I haven’t slept in a long time
