Western Hunter Magazine November/December Nov/Dec 2020 #79 | Page 6

Welcome to the “ Friends and Family ” issue . Late last year we decided on the themes for each 2020 issue of Western Hunter , and “ Friends and Family ” was the first topic we all agreed on , but we decided to hold it until the last issue of the year . The brainstorming was easy on this one , and we quickly had more topics than we could possibly cover in 100 pages .

Our feature stories exemplify the family traditions surrounding our hunting heritage . We have stories from nearly every combination of family relationship . Many of these authors have been waiting a long time to see their articles in print , so I thank each of you for your patience .
I ’ m particularly excited about the editorial content in this issue . George Bettas ’ s story about his Alaskan bear hunt with his brother is truly epic . What they did took serious courage along with years of planning . Remi Warren educates us on how to get your spouse started in hunting – what to do , and more importantly , what not to do .

The everyday life of Fred and Michelle Eichler is nothing short of amazing . They farm , ranch , guide hunts , and film a TV show 365 days a year . If you just follow him on social media or watch the TV show , their life might appear ideal , but I know that isn ’ t always true . I asked Fred to give us a peek behind the curtain of their lives ; the ups and downs , the good and the bad .
I believe you would all agree with me when I say that this holiday season will prove to be one to remember ( or to forget ). Between the COVID19 , social unrest , and a contentious presidential election , it will be difficult to focus on those aspects of our lives over which we actually have control . But as leaders within our families , friend groups , and communities , we have a unique opportunity to offer hope and unity . It won ’ t be easy ; these negative influences will not go away any time soon , and they will try their best to rob us of our joy . Don ’ t let them . GET OUT AND VOTE !
