FOUR ❖ STARTERS 8 ❖ SOUTH ❖ APRIL-MAY '19 JOHN AND KATHERINE HEWITT HOUSE. Coal operator Col. John Hewitt and his wife Katherine tore down two houses they owned to construct this house in 1914. Patterned after Anne Hathaway's cottage, the house features Steuben lamps with Tiffany shades and Indiana white oak flooring with a cherry border. Because Mrs. Hewitt didn't want coal dirt in the house, she requested the furnace to be installed under the carriage house with pipes carrying the heat to the main house.
